FAQ

How can I prevent bed bugs?

  • Reduce home clutter. Bed bugs like cool, dark spaces, so clutter is the perfect place for them during the day.

  • Check your bags when you get home. If you bring your personal belongings to high-traffic places, bed bugs might latch onto these bags.

  • Frequent vacuuming. When they aren’t hiding in closets or cracks, bed bugs might camp out in the carpeting, so vacuuming the house prevents them from latching on to your bed.

What time of year are bed bugs most common in West Palm Beach?

Bed bug populations do vary throughout the year, but populations tend to explode and are more of a concern in South Florida during tourist season. Large groups of people coming and going from our area allow bed bugs to move from place to place with great ease.

Homes, airports, office buildings, shopping centers, hospitals, libraries, and movie theaters all house bed bugs and allow people to come into contact with them unknowingly. Hotels, resorts, motels, and other rentals are also hot spots for bed bugs.

Can pest control kill bed bugs?

Effective bed bug control will kill the bed bugs in your home. This process can sometimes require more than one treatment. We'll inspect and re-treat your home if necessary.

Do I need to prepare my home for bed bug control services?

If we determine that bed bugs are present during our inspection, we will provide you with a bed bug treatment prep sheet. Proper preparation is critical to ensure a successful bed bug treatment. You can help reduce the spread of bed bugs by properly preparing a room for a bed bug treatment.

Before treatment, we will ask you to remove all sheets and blankets from beds and mattresses in the affected rooms. You'll need to launder these items in a hot wash cycle and hot dry cycle to eliminate any active bed bugs, larvae, or eggs.

It is important not to remove any furniture before a bed bug treatment unless the items of furniture are first wrapped tightly in plastic sheeting. Many people remove mattresses and box springs from their homes immediately upon finding bed bugs.

If not done carefully, bed bugs can fall off the items while being moved and spread to different areas of your home. You'll need to remove all loose items and clothing from dressers, nightstands, and closet floors. Hanging clothes can remain in closets.

Before a bed bug treatment, all occupants and pets must leave the structure for a minimum of four hours. While all of the products we use are labeled as safe for bed bug control and used in nursing homes and hospitals, the products must dry per label instructions before you return.

What does a bed bug bite look like?

Since not everyone reacts to bed bug bites, it's possible not to know you have a bed bug problem until someone else in your family starts complaining about bug bites.

Bed bug bites may take anywhere from a few hours to as long as nine days to show up. Some people will have a sensitivity to bed bug saliva, which will cause them to develop lesions that may closely resemble mosquito bites. However, bed bug bites usually do not have a red dot in the center.

Bed bug bites are often mistaken for flea bites, but there are a couple of differences. First, fleas tend to bite around the ankles and extremities while bed bugs prefer to bite on the trunk of your body. Second, fleas tend to bite in random patterns, while bed bug bites tend to be in linear patterns.

What chemicals do pest control companies use for bed bug treatment?

Typically, the most effective way to eliminate a bed bug infestation is by using a combination of chemical treatments. We use liquids, dusts, and aerosols that we must apply according to precise standards and with detailed care.
