Correct Moisture Problems
Repair plumbing leaks, roof damage, and water intrusion around windows or doors. Replace wood that remains wet or badly deteriorated. Improve ventilation in humid spaces and keep gutters directing water away from the structure.
Moisture correction can make the property less attractive to carpenter ants while also addressing the conditions that contributed to wood damage.
Remove Food Sources
Store pantry items in sealed containers and clean spills promptly. Rinse food packaging before recycling it, wipe residue from appliances, and avoid leaving pet food out overnight when ants are active.
Cleaning may reduce foraging, but it will not eliminate a colony already established in a wall, tree, or landscape area.
